On Saturday the 1st of November, I’m going to be doing this:

*Shudder*
I hadn’t actually seen that video before. I went googling looking for images to use in this blog post, and found that. I kind of wish I hadn’t watched it. I think my prior ignorance was bliss.
So, why the hell am I doing a stupid thing like that?
When I was writing my forthcoming release, Nothing Ventured, I did a fair amount of research into these sort of races. At one point I made the mistake of saying, “Actually, they do look sort of fun,” while my other half was listening in. He’s a crazy person who actually enjoys crawling through mud and jumping into freezing water in the name of sport. Anyway, somehow–I think there was alcohol involved–he talked me into it. And next thing I knew he’d registered me for the bloody thing.
I’ve been training since April because it’s a 10km race, and that’s a lot further that I normally run. But I haven’t done any training to challenge my moderate mud phobia, I’m just going to deal with that on the day. What could possibly go wrong? I can just have an extra long shower after and scrub myself with a brillo pad–right? Right.
Anyway, I figured as I’m committed to doing the event, it would be a good opportunity to raise some money for the Albert Kennedy Trust. They are a charity that support homeless LGBT youth in the UK. It’s a really great cause, so please sponsor me! You can do it quickly and easily through my JustGiving page.
My inlaws are going to be coming to watch the race on the day, so I’m hoping to have some good muddy photos to share afterwards to prove that I did it!
